Our Story

Mission

Partnering with survivors to heal pasts and build futures.

Vision

Working in partnership with survivors, professionals and community to break down barriers and advocate for practices which promote safety and access for ALL survivors to create a haven where needs are met, children are protected, violence stops, families begin to heal and thrive, and hope is realized.

History

The Crystal Judson Family Justice Center (CJFJC) opened in mid-December of 2005. The CJFJC was created as a result of an interlocal agreement between the City of Tacoma and Pierce County.

The interlocal agreement calls for the City and the County to jointly fund the basic infrastructure costs of the CJFJC. Additional funding for the CJFJC comes from grants and donations. These funds support the programs and services provided at the center.

Co-location and collaboration is the corner stone of how Family Justice Centers operate. The CJFJC has 7 onsite partners and over 38 co-located professionals to support survivors. In addition to our onsite partners, the CJFJC has numerous offsite partners to help provide connections and care.

Crystal Judson

The center is named in honor of Crystal Judson Brame. Crystal was murdered in 2003 by her husband, then Tacoma Police Department Chief of Police David Brame, who also took his own life.

In the lobby of the Crystal Judson Family Justice Center hangs a plaque to honor her memory. It reads: "Crystal Judson Family Justice Center Dedicated to the Memory of Crystal Judson May all who walk through these doors find Strength, courage and hope."
